Exhibiting at the AoC Conference 2015

Smart Assessor exhibited at the Association of Colleges 2015 national conference 17-19th November at the ICC Birmingham. The theme of the conference was ‘Powering the Economy’  which referred to how the Further Education sector are training today’s generation for the skills we need to make our economy successful. The key theme of the conference, and a message reiterated by Nick Boles MP, Minister of State for Skills and Equalities, urged colleges to seize the opportunity to deliver more apprenticeships.

Whilst cuts have bitten hard to other funding streams funding for apprenticeships continues to grow. Smart Assessor’s e-portfolio is designed for both apprentices and classroom learners, offering an innovative employer dashboard employers can log into the Smart Assessor e-portfolio to see how their apprentices are progressing, provide expert employer testimony evidence, read feedback from their assessor and see actions left for their apprentice to complete. The Smart Assessor e-portfolio seamlessly connects the learner, training provider and employer to give collaborative support for the learner helping them to complete their apprenticeship successfully on time. With the Government’s pledge to recruit 3m apprentices in the lifetime of this parliament there is a great opportunity for colleges to develop their apprenticeship programmes with local employers, but they will need to be flexible and entrepreneurial.

Employers have a business to run and need training providers to deliver high quality training and assessment to fill the skills gaps of their companies, in a flexible manner. Employers that offer 7 days retail service need to be able to schedule training when it suits their business and this may be on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.

For those colleges who have strong relationships with local employers through great apprenticeship delivery will be first choice partner for more of their training requirements, leading to commercial training opportunities alongside apprenticeships.
